After reading both “Call it sleep” and ” The Paper Menagerie”, a similarity between the protagonist in both text Jack and David, I realized that they both are influenced by the outside world where they accept the outside more than home. In “Call it sleep”, David is a Jewish kid that doesn’t really get taught the religion at home but from the people he hangs out with. He goes to a school where the rabbi teaches him the history of Judaism and certain principles he has to follow. In the text “The Paper Menagerie”, Jack is Chinese but soon doesn’t really like it because others notice that his mother doesn’t speak English so they would bully him for it. He soon ignored her if she spoke Chinese to him
